Twisted Bird FAQ

Why do I need a web designer?
When a web designer (Freelance or Professional) is hired the customer receives the benefits of their expertise, talent, technological skills and the experience. A web site designed by a professional freelancer will load quickly, be user friendly, appeal to your target audience and encourage repeat visits. Just as it would had the customer hired a company.

Why do I need a website?
A website provides instant access to information about your company, whether it be your products or just your phone number. It can be on 'online brochure', it can sell your products directly or it can just have some general information about your company.

How do I get online?
Many people think because they have registered their domain name - that's it, they're online. Even if you have your domain name, it still has to be hosted somewhere. You may be offered 'free webspace', which is fine if you're wanting a modest web presence or a personal website, but if it's for your company and you're expecting many people to visit your site, it may not be worth the risk. They may charge extra for more bandwidth (if you get a lot of 'hits'), for reply forms and the connection to the webspace may be unstable with too many people using it.

For this reason I recommend using One.com with whom I am affilliated. They provide hosting at a very low cost, with unlimited bandwidth. They can give me full control over the webspace for my clients and are very reliable. Alternatively, you may have webspace available with your own Internet Provider, in which case we just need the Host, Username, and Password to upload your website to your webspace.

If you would like a .co.za site then please contact my partner Carin Eagleton for a quote.

Do I have a say in how the website looks?
Of course! Each page will be shown to you upon completion for your approval. You may already have an idea of how you would like it to look, or you may have seen some sites you like which would give me an idea of how you would like yours to appear.

What is your web design process?
All consultation is done by e-mail, discussing what type of design you are looking for, what services you require, etc. Through e-mail, you will provide me with photos (jpeg, gif, or bmp format only), company information, and other text. I will then send screenshots for your review. After the changes are made and a final look is decided upon, you will receive your first bill, usually 25% of the total bill. I will then begin the rest of your web site after your payment is received/cleared. When the final draft of your web site is completed, it is then uploaded to the server for your review. After the final changes are made, your web site is uploaded to the server. You will then be billed the remaining amount.

What is not included in your web design service?
Full-Flash web site
Dynamic/data-driven web site

What do I get for my money?
All my sites are designed from scratch. I aim to give all of my clients 'value for money' websites. Granted you may find a cheaper offer out there and no doubt a lot more expensive solutions. Every point below comes as standard with my designs:

Custom Website Design - your own unique look and feel.
Ethical and clean coding
Optimised web pages in a range of solutions with optimised graphics
Free Support and advice

Quality, value and personal service - Lots of website design companies can provide 'cool' web designs and website design services - but for a high price; often charging several thousands of rands for their website designs. There are also many companies that offer cheap web design - but the quality of the design is usually poor. Twisted Bird WebDesign is a different kind of website design company : I am freelance and like to keep things simple. Unlike with large web development companies, the fact that I am freelance means that your project is not just a nine-to-five job for me. With Twisted Bird WebDesign you will experience an exceptional level of personal service and flexibility.

Low Cost Website design prices - There isn't a fixed price to buy a website, or one website design price but, as you might expect, costs vary according to the size of the project.

How long will it take?
This will depend on the size of the project. It can take anywhere from 48 hours to a week for smaller web sites, to 15 days to a month for larger web sites. The sooner you supply the required information, the sooner I can get started.
